What is an ACE file?
ACE – ACE archive. ACE is a proprietary archive format from WinAce. It is no longer maintained, and most current archive programs have dropped it.
ACE Converter →What is a 7Z file?
7Z – 7-Zip archive. 7Z is the native format of the open-source 7-Zip. It packs files tighter than ZIP, mostly thanks to LZMA2 compression, and supports AES-256 encryption of both contents and file names.

Good to know
- ACE is an old format that today's computers rarely open by themselves. 7Z files are much easier to open, share and keep.
- Symbolic links, hard links and special files (such as devices) are left out of the result for safety; the page tells you when it does this.
