Good to know
- TAR doesn't compress, so the TAR is usually bigger than the DMG it came from. Pick TAR.GZ or TAR.XZ for a smaller file.
- The result holds the files from the disk image; it can no longer be mounted or burned as a disc.
- Symbolic links, hard links and special files (such as devices) are left out of the result for safety; the page tells you when it does this.

Are my DMG files uploaded anywhere?
Files up to 200 MB never leave your device: ConvertKitty runs 7-Zip inside your browser. Only larger files, or formats your browser cannot handle, are sent to our server, over an encrypted connection, and deleted 72 hours after the conversion. The button says "Upload and convert" whenever that happens.
Can I convert a password-protected DMG file?
Yes. Click Options next to the file and enter its password. The TAR you get back is not password-protected.
How large can the DMG file be?

Will the folders inside my DMG be kept?
