Extract Files from Any Archive

Drop an archive to see what's inside, then save single files or download them all as a ZIP.

ConvertKitty opens 38 archive formats online, including ZIP, RAR, 7Z, TAR.GZ and ISO. Drop a file to list everything inside, save the files you need one by one, or download them all as a ZIP. 29 of these formats open right in your browser, so the files stay on your device; the rest are opened on our server and come back as one ZIP.

How to extract an archive

  1. Click Select File, or drop your archive anywhere on this page.
  2. See every file and folder inside, with its size.
  3. Click Save next to a file to download just that file, or download the files you ticked, or all of them, as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Symbolic links, hard links and special files (such as devices) are left out for safety.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between extracting and converting?

Extracting gets the files out of an archive, so you can save the ones you need. Converting turns the whole archive into another format, for example RAR to ZIP; the converters on the home page do that.

Which archives can I open?

7Z, ACE, ALZ, ARC, ARJ, BZ, BZ2, CAB, CPIO, DEB, DMG, GZ, IMG, ISO, JAR, LHA, LZ, LZMA, LZO, RAR, RPM, RZ, TAR, TAR.7Z, TAR.BZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.GZ, TAR.LZO, TAR.XZ, TAR.Z, TBZ, TBZ2, TGZ, TZ, TZO, XZ, Z, ZIP.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

Archives up to 200 MB never leave your device: ConvertKitty runs 7-Zip inside your browser to list and unpack them. Larger archives, and formats your browser can't open, are sent over an encrypted connection, made into one ZIP, and deleted 72 hours later. The button says "Upload and extract" whenever that happens.

Is it free?

Yes. Opening archives in your browser and saving the files is free, with no account and no limit. Archives opened on our server use credits: everyone gets 25 free credits a day, and most archives cost a single one. Credits reset at midnight UTC.

How large can the archive be?

Up to 200 MB in your browser. Larger archives, up to 1 GB, are opened on our server and come back as one ZIP.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern web browser, on a computer or a phone, and the files you save go to your downloads.
