DOC – Microsoft Word 97-2003 document. DOC is the binary document format Microsoft Word used until 2003. Newer programs still open it, but it is bigger and less portable than DOCX.

Good to know
- The DOC file is opened by LibreOffice. Fonts it does not have are replaced, so line and page breaks can differ a little from the program that made the file.
- Each page becomes a picture. A document with more than one page comes back as a ZIP with a PNG for each page, drawn at 150 dots per inch unless you choose otherwise in Options.
- The text in the pictures cannot be selected or searched.

This conversion runs on our server, because reading a DOC file needs LibreOffice, which does not run in a browser. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, and both it and the result are deleted 72 hours after the conversion. The server has no internet access while it works on your file.
How large can the DOC file be?

Will the PNG look the same as the DOC?
The pages keep their text, pictures and layout. A DOC file that uses fonts the converter does not have is shown with similar ones, so lines can break in different places.
