What is a PNG file?

PNG – PNG image. PNG keeps every pixel as it was, which keeps the sharp edges of text. A page converted to PNG is a picture of it, with the text no longer selectable.

Good to know

  • Each page of the PDF becomes a PNG picture, and a PDF with several pages comes back as a ZIP. Pages are drawn at 150 dots per inch unless you choose otherwise in Options, and at most 200 pages are converted at once.
  • The text in the pictures cannot be selected or searched.

Frequently asked questions

Is converting PDF to PNG free?

Yes. Everyone gets 25 free credits a day, with no account needed. Conversions on our server use one credit per started minute of work, so most cost a single credit. Credits reset at midnight UTC.

Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?

Plain text, Markdown, HTML and Word files, and PDFs turned into pictures or text, are converted inside your browser and never leave your device. Other conversions, and files over 200 MB, are sent to our server over an encrypted connection and deleted 72 hours after the conversion; the server has no internet access while it works on your file. The button says "Upload and convert" whenever that happens.

How large can the PDF file be?

Files up to 200 MB are converted right in your browser. Larger files, up to 1 GB, are converted on our server.

Will the PNG look the same as the PDF?

The pages keep their text, pictures and layout. A PDF file that uses fonts the converter does not have is shown with similar ones, so lines can break in different places.

Can I convert several PDF files at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are converted one after another, and each one gets its own Download button.

Can I choose pages or quality for the PNG?

Yes. Click Options next to the file. Only the settings that make sense for PDF to PNG are shown, including which pages to convert.
