What is an LRF file?
LRF – Sony Reader e-book (LRF). LRF is the e-book format of Sony's older Reader devices.
LRF Converter →What is a MOBI file?
MOBI – Mobipocket e-book. MOBI is the e-book format of Mobipocket, once the format of Kindle e-readers. Older Kindles open it; newer ones prefer EPUB or AZW3. Books bought in a store often have DRM, which stops them from being converted.

Good to know
- The LRF e-book is converted by calibre. Copy-protected (DRM) e-books cannot be converted: ConvertKitty does not remove DRM, so use books you have bought without it or that are free of it.
- The MOBI e-book is made by calibre from the text, headings and pictures of the LRF file; a cover is not created.
Frequently asked questions
Is converting LRF to MOBI free?
Yes. Everyone gets 25 free credits a day, with no account needed. Conversions on our server use one credit per started minute of work, so most cost a single credit. Credits reset at midnight UTC.
Are my LRF files uploaded anywhere?
This conversion runs on our server, because reading an LRF file needs calibre, which does not run in a browser. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, and both it and the result are deleted 72 hours after the conversion. The server has no internet access while it works on your file.
How large can the LRF file be?
Up to 1 GB per file. This conversion runs on our server, which accepts files up to that size.
Will the MOBI look the same as the LRF?
The text, chapters and pictures are kept. The look can differ: MOBI readers use their own fonts and page sizes, so page breaks move.
Can I convert several LRF files at once?
Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are converted one after another, and each one gets its own Download button.
How long does converting LRF to MOBI take?
In our tests a 4 MB novel of 400 chapters took about 44 seconds to become a MOBI file. Most books are far smaller and take a few seconds.
