What is a TXT file?
TXT – Plain text. TXT is plain text with no formatting, fonts or pictures. Every device opens it and it never goes out of date.
TXT Converter →What is a MOBI file?
MOBI – Mobipocket e-book. MOBI is the e-book format of Mobipocket, once the format of Kindle e-readers. Older Kindles open it; newer ones prefer EPUB or AZW3. Books bought in a store often have DRM, which stops them from being converted.

Good to know
- The MOBI e-book is made by calibre from the text, headings and pictures of the TXT file; a cover is not created.
- The text is converted as it is: a blank line starts a new paragraph, and marks like # and * are not treated as Markdown.
Frequently asked questions
Is converting TXT to MOBI free?
Yes. Everyone gets 25 free credits a day, with no account needed. Conversions on our server use one credit per started minute of work, so most cost a single credit. Credits reset at midnight UTC.
Are my TXT files uploaded anywhere?
This conversion runs on our server, because making e-books needs calibre, which does not run in a browser. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection, and both it and the result are deleted 72 hours after the conversion. The server has no internet access while it works on your file.
How large can the TXT file be?
Up to 1 GB per file. This conversion runs on our server, which accepts files up to that size.
Will the MOBI look the same as the TXT?
The text and structure are kept: headings, lists, tables, bold and italic. Exact page layout, fonts and spacing may differ, because MOBI is flowing text, not fixed pages.
Can I convert several TXT files at once?
Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are converted one after another, and each one gets its own Download button.
