Good to know

  • Headings, lists, tables, bold and italic are kept as Markdown; pictures in the document are not included.
  • The text is converted as it is: a blank line starts a new paragraph, and marks like # and * are not treated as Markdown.
  • A text file is already valid Markdown, so the text is not changed; only the file name is.

Frequently asked questions

Is converting TXT to MD free?

Yes. Everyone gets 25 free credits a day, with no account needed. Conversions on our server use one credit per started minute of work, so most cost a single credit. Credits reset at midnight UTC.

Are my TXT files uploaded anywhere?

Plain text, Markdown, HTML and Word files, and PDFs turned into pictures or text, are converted inside your browser and never leave your device. Other conversions, and files over 200 MB, are sent to our server over an encrypted connection and deleted 72 hours after the conversion; the server has no internet access while it works on your file. The button says "Upload and convert" whenever that happens.

How large can the TXT file be?

Files up to 200 MB are converted right in your browser. Larger files, up to 1 GB, are converted on our server.

Will the MD look the same as the TXT?

The text and structure are kept: headings, lists, tables, bold and italic. Exact page layout, fonts and spacing may differ, because MD is flowing text, not fixed pages.

Can I convert several TXT files at once?

Yes. Add as many files as you like; they are converted one after another, and each one gets its own Download button.
